"What to expect on your first day"
How to prepare for your skating lessons:
- Get your skates sharpened
- Make sure your helmet fits
- Pack your mittens or gloves.
- Pack an old rag to wipe your blades with after your lesson.
- Practice putting on your skates and tying them, if you need help then watch our video on how to tie skate. You can find it on our EQUIPMENT page.
On the first day:
- Arrive early and check in at the Learn to Skate table, this is usually a very busy time often resulting in a line up for tag collection.
- Collect your name tag and your coloured skate tag from the table.
- Proceed to the dressing rooms to put on your skates. Dressing rooms are located on the side of the rink opposite the stadium seating.
- Clip your name tag onto your zipper pull or pocket and pin the skate tag onto the very bottom lace of your skate.
- Skaters then wait at the rink door until they are welcomed onto the ice by a coach or Program Assistant (PA).
- Parents MUST stay in the arena. Parents are welcome to watch their children from the stadium seats, or from the viewing area of the lobby. Please do not use the player’s benches or the penalty box. We reserve these areas for our equipment and a designated first aid area.
- During the first few lessons your child may be moved between groups, we continually assess the skaters so that they are with children of like abilities.
- At the end of the lesson, collect your child at the opposite end of the rink from where you dropped them off.
